Carrera de San Rafael Cycling Event Acquires New Promoter and Race Date for 10th Anniversary

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - April 03, 2008) - Continuing the excitement generated last year throughout the national cycling community, Carrera de San Rafael announces important changes to its 2008 event. Project Sport, LLC, one of the largest sports marketing companies in the San Francisco Bay Area, has acquired this premier cycling event that will return to the streets of downtown San Rafael on its new date of Saturday, August 9, 2008.

"Project Sport's acquisition of Carrera de San Rafael comes at a time when cycling is currently experiencing a period of unprecedented growth and popularity," said Ryan Dawkins, President of Project Sport, LLC. "There is no better sport to showcase a region than a twilight themed professional cycling event. Our goal is to leverage the success in 2007 and focus on community, family and recruiting top professional talent in the U.S. We're incredibly excited to bring our event expertise to San Rafael."

Featuring elite professional teams and athletes from across the United States, Project Sport and Carrera de San Rafael's twilight format will bring the drama and excitement of professional cycling to Marin's largest city for the 10th year in San Rafael's vibrant downtown setting.

"It's fitting on the tenth anniversary of this race that it is handed to an organization capable of bringing the event to its fullest potential," said Wil Matthews, who started the downtown race in 1998. "This is the perfect venue for this sport, centrally located to spectators, sponsors and media -- and in one of the most active cycling communities in the nation. Project Sport has what it takes to make Carrera de San Rafael a top national race."

The 2007 Carrera drew thousands of spectators, surpassing the all previous years' turnouts and setting records in attendance for a single-day participatory sporting event in Northern California. One of the most anticipated professional cycling races on the Northern California/Nevada Cycling Association calendar, the 2008 Carrera de San Rafael this year will feature even more spectator activities throughout the day, including a larger expo and a professional athlete village.

As in past years, the Carrera will cover a .9-mile course covering Fourth, D, Fifth, and A Streets in downtown San Rafael, with athletes in the Pro men's race racing for 90 minutes.

"This event is the fastest race in Northern California and with the evening format, it provides an atmosphere of excitement for both riders and spectators beyond that of any other race," said Mack Chew, Director of Operations, Project Sport, LLC.

Children under 12 will have a chance to take part in the Kids' Race, where the young ones will take to the course for a few laps, accompanied by experienced racers from the event.

In addition to the kids' race and the marquee men's and women's pro-am events, the Carrera will also offer racing for a range of amateur categories, with the final schedule and registration to be announced in June.
